Three thousand of the Illinois National Guard's 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team are heading to Afghanistan by the end of this month. Right now they're training in Fort Bragg, North Carolina preparing for their mission to train and mentor Afghan security forces as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. While they're not training, they're back at camp. KHQA's Melissa Shriver found out how they spend their time and how it brings them together.

Right now the Illinois National Guard's 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of three thousand soldiers is wrapping up training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Officials say that training is always evolving as information is gathered, as does the gear they use to stay safe.

Right now three thousand citizen soldiers from across Illinois, including here in the Tri-States, are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan with the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Of the entire combat team, an increasing number of the soldiers are women.

The State of Illinois is in the midst of its largest overseas deployment of Illinois National Guardsmen and women since World War two.
Right now about 3000 citizen soldiers from 30 units across the state including here in the Tri-States are preparing for deployment to Afghanistan as part of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
