ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Attorney General Jay Nixon is warning consumers in the St. Louis area about an attempt by identity thieves to steal personal information.

He says consumers are receiving text messages on their wireless phones that appear to be from Arsenal Credit Union in Jefferson County, but actually are from identity thieves.

Nixon said consumers have told him the text message instructs them to provide information about their bank account, debit card and credit card numbers.

He says the contact is coming from identity thieves, and not the credit union. He says consumers should not give out their personal data.
