Drivers under 18 can't have passengers other than siblings
KEOKUK, IOWA -- Iowa teenagers could face more driving restrictions under a bill being considered in the legislature. Under the measure, drivers under 18 would not be able to have passengers other than siblings unless a parent is present. This limit would be in place for the first six months of a teen's intermediate driver's license. Iowa already has a graduated drivers license program where teenagers won't receive their full license until age 17. We checked in with one driving instructor who said most teenagers are good drivers.
"One of the things about teenagers is they don't have a lot of experience on the road, some things they might encounter on the road that you and I might have done because of our age, that they don't know because they don't really know what to look for and that's one of the problems that teenagers have more accidents than any other driving group because of the experience factor," said Keokuk High School driving instructor, Dave Hall.
