DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- A protest over power plants is slated Tuesday afternoon at the Iowa Statehouse.

Two environmental groups from Waterloo and Marshalltown will urge Governor Culver to place a moratorium on new coal-fired plants. Both cities have proposals to build new plants on the table.

LS Power and Elk Run Energy Associates want to build a plant in Waterloo, while Alliant Energy has proposed one in Marshalltown.

Members of the Iowa Sierra Club and Community Energy Solutions say they'll be at the Capitol, where they'll highlight the benefits of alternative energy and point out the costs of using coal.
