WOBURN, Mass. (AP) - A Brazilian doctor in Massachusetts has been sentenced to up to three years in prison after pleading guilty in the death of a 24-year-old woman who died after a liposuction procedure.

Luiz Carlos Ribeiro was accused of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Fabiola DePaula in July 2006. DePaula died of complications from the cosmetic surgery.

Prosecutors said the doctor performed the surgery on a massage table in the basement of a condominium and did not have a professional present to monitor her vital signs.

Ribeiro was not licensed to practice medicine in the United States.
