There are only seven thousand of them on the streets of America, and I've seen two in Quincy.

It's the Smart Car.

It's only nine feet long, five feet wide, and five feet tall.

It gets great gas mileage, and can fit just about anywhere.

Care to take a test drive?

When Chris Grimm said she wanted a Mercedes, this isn't exactly what she had in mind. But now that she and her husband own a Smart car, she wouldn't trade it for anything.

"To us it's a town car. A fun car. Not a serious car," says Grimm.

But after gas prices started skyrocketing, the Grimms realized this was a very practical car.

What is the gas mileage on this?

"Right now under 40 miles per gallon," adds Grimm.

And that's not all. This baby is a cinch to park.

"We found some people get frustrated when they think they found a spot and whoops, there's a car in there. We learned to not park as deep as we used to," says Grimm.

Part of the Smart technology is what's called a hockey puck in the interior of the car.

"It tells you when your lights should be on, and when they should be bright or dim. It also senses when there's rain and works on your windshied wipers," says Grimm.

I know you're wondering about space. Chris tells me it'll handle a trip to the grocery store no problem. They're looking for the right size cooler to fit. But she says, it's a lot more spacious than you think.

How safe do you feel in the Smart Car?

"Actually, the crash tests just came out, and rated the car very high. The car is small and light that it has a ping pong effect. Instead of crashing, it has the tendency to bounce," says Grimm.

And how's it drive?

"It travels very well. You would think you'd bounce around, but you don't. If it's windy, you get a little push back," says Grimm.

What's the best part about owning it?

"The looks you get from people. We came out of the grocery store in the rain. Four people were standing around it wanting to ask question in the rain," says Grimm.

If you see the Grimms and have questions, just ask, they love to talk about the car.

Now, you're also probably wondering what SMART stands for.

It is a pretty bright car, but it all falls in the name.

The S is named for the Swatch watch company, the M is for Mercedes Benz.

The ART comes in because the prototype ended up in a museum for modern art.
