Clarksville residents are asking for your help to remove thousands of sandbags from their homes and businesses.
The city will take care of the disposal of the sandbags.
But first residents have to get them off their lawns to the street for pick-up.
Many residents are seniors and need help moving them. Others like DiAnne Smith can't do it themselves. She had knee surgery not long ago. Without help removing the bags, the wall of sand was actually holding water in her home.
Smith said, "When rain did fall it was falling inside the sandbags and can't get out. I had a swamp around my house. I couldn't get stuff out of the house or get house repairs done. Nothing until these people came and volunteered their time."
Tuesday volunteers including some with AmeriCorps's emergency response team out of South Alabama helped remove sandbags from her home here.
Smith said, "There's no way you can repay them for their time and goodness, except to say thank you."
More help is needed.
If you can help, you can check in at the Clarksville city hall for directions to homes still submerged under sandbags.
