QUINCY, IL -- Many people came out to Quincy University's campus to freeze their paws off this morning.

It was the first year for the Padua (pad'-oo-uh) Pet Parade.

Everyone's pets were individually blessed by brother Ed, before going on a three quarter mile walk throughout the campus.

Those who came out to Padua (pad'-oo-uh) Hall donated money and items such as animal collars, treats, and toys to benefit the Quincy Humane Society.

Qu's residence life staff, who hosted the event, told us they wanted to do something good for the community and thought this was great way to reach out.

People we spoke with thought it was a great idea to both, get their pet blessed and support a good cause.

Justen Arnold asked, "Why did you come out today despite the cold and windy weather?"

"I had to walk my dog anyway and I thought it was a good opportunity to mingle with other people and other dogs as well as help out the Humane Society," said Jeri Defresne, event participant.

Snacks and hot chocolate were served after the walk, and of course treats for the pets.

Residents staff say they're planning to help at area soup kitchens before the end of the year.
