Local law enforcement assist needy children this holiday season

QUINCY, IL -- he economy woes were eased for dozens of area children, who received some help with their holiday shopping this year.
Since the 80's, The Quincy Police Benevolent and Protective Association has been partnering with K-Mart for the annual Shop with Cop.
Several officers donated their time and money this morning, to help 20 children from Cheerful Home find gifts for their families.
Between the two organizations more than 12 hundred dollars, along with the wrapping materials, and even a gift for each child were donated this year.
One father told us how much he and his 7 year old daughter Zakkiyya really appreciate today's event.
"This is a great thing because the way the economy is going you, you know, it's kind of hard on parents you know, to get gifts you know, and this helps her out, and also us because the simple fact we unable to buy what she really wants," said William Brent, Zakkiyya's father.
"From time to time you'll be asked you know the BPA might have a fundraiser or something like that and this is one of the big things the money is used for," said Tim Bichsel, President of the QPD BPA.
And after checking out, the officers even helped the kids wrapped the presents.
Each child was between the ages of 5 and 12 and got about 60 dollars to spend at KMART.
At the end of the day, Santa Clause made a special appearance at the store and there was a party for all who participated.
