IOWA -- The state of Iowa could see an increase in its gas tax.

Some state legislators propose raising it eight to ten cents.

That would raise about $220 million that would be used for highways across the state.

State Representative Jerry Kearns says if it passes, every county in the state should see some money.

"I think we have mixed reactions over here. I think if it came to a vote, there would be bipartisan opposition and bipartisan support. The Governor, last year, said he would not support any increase in the gas tax. he has not necessarily said that this year," says Kearns.

The bill hasn't made its way through the Senate yet, so it's not even in the House.

Kearns told KHQA he expects a vote on it sometime this session.
