HANNIBAL, MO -- On Saturday afternoon, police arrested a Hannibal man for having several active warrants.

According to a Hannibal Police Department news release, an officer tried to contact 26-year-old Nicholas Powell, but he ran away.

When the officer caught up with Powell, he allegedly tried to resist arrest by hitting the officer.

Police eventually took Powell into custody.

He was taken to the Marion County Jail where he was held on three active warrants and two additional charges for assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. The officer assaulted during the arrest had minor scratches but did not require medical treatment.
