QUINCY, Illinois-  Almost 100 catholic school kindergarten students from Quincy and Mt. Sterling came together for a special event Wednesday morning.

Teachers used the 9th annual Kindergarten Read Day as a way to get kids excited about reading.

Some students from QND also lent a helping hand.

Throughout the day the students participated in different events that show how important reading is in their lives.

Some of activities focussed on numbers other focused on finding hidden objects.

Organizer JoAnn Wolkitt says that getting kids started early is the key to helping kids to understand how important it is in life.

She also encourages parents to make reading and talking about what they read a regular part of the activities they do with their children.
