GRIGGSVILLE IL -- A new ethanol plant will be located just off Highway 107 in Griggsville. Sitting just across the street from Nature House Inc., which was once the economic heart of this community, the new plant looks to provide a fresh start and a brighter future for Griggsville.
"It's huge for the county and the city. It's really one of the greatest things to happen for many, many years," Griggsville Mayor Kent Goewey said Monday.
In fact, building the 113 million gallon facility will require about 200 laborers when construction begins in May. Forty permanent jobs will be created to run the plant. Heartland Ethanol LLC of Knoxville, Tenn., has already secured $50 million of the $200 million needed to build. And despite the growing number of ethanol plants in the Tri-States, Heartland president Walker Filbert is confident the plant will be successful.
"We're not worried about other competitors in the area. We'll just stick to our own knitting and get the project done here, hopefully soon," Filbert said.
And local leaders like Grigssville Mayor Goewey hope this plant is the beginning of many great things to come in the region. The plant is expected to open by November of 2008.
