CLAYTON, ILL. -- A fire destroyed a church in downtown Clayton Tuesday morning.

Around 1.30 a.m., the Clayton fire department received a call that the Clayton Disciples of Christ Christian Church  at 201 East Maine was on fire.

The state fire marshal reports the fire appeared to be electrical, and started in the fellowship hall.

Just four years ago, the church held its 150-year celebration.

Church leaders met Tuesday afternoon to find a new location to hold services.
