Golden, IL -- A small retirement home in the Tri-states needs money in a big way.

The Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden, Illinois held a Kick-off fundraising festival today.

There was food, entertainment, auctions, activities for the kids and much more.

The home is trying to raise $300,000 for capital improvements needed at the home.

Some of those improvements are a required by the state of Illinois and must be completed to keep the home open.

Amanda Marlow, the home's administrator, says Good Shepherd has 42 residents and employs 60 full and part time staff.

She says with the closing of Methode last year in Golden, closing the home would have a huge impact on the community.

"The state has required that we make upgrades to our sprinkler systems, we have a fully functioning sprinkler system right now however they want us to add sprinkler heads in the closets and bathrooms our residence rooms which is an extensive and expensive upgrade," said Marlow.

Marlow says the sprinkler system will cost about $180,000 and construction must begin before September 30th of this year.

Other improvements that are needed for the home, but not required, included a call light system for residents and to fix and update the home's plumbing.

There are several other fundraisers planned for this year.

They include a sand volleyball tournament July 25th and a Golf Tournament August 22nd.

Both will be in Camp Point.
