QUINCY, ILL -- The following is a news release from the Illinois State Police - District 20 in Pittsfield
Pittsfield, IL – The Illinois State Police, District 20, may conduct Motorcycle Roadside Safety Checks in Adams, Brown, Pike, Scott, and Schuyler Counties during the month of July, according to Captain Patrick Staples.
Officers working these details will be watchful for drivers who are operating unsafe vehicles and motorcycle riders operating outside of their driver’s license classifications, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages or driving under the influence.
The number of motorcycle fatalities have been on the rise since 2002. There are several reasons for the increase in fatalities: more motorcycles on the roadway due to gas economy and recreation, new drivers with little or no riding experience, failure to wear helmets and operating the motorcycle under the influence.
"Its important that we make motorcyclists aware of riding dangers and educate them on safe riding habits while ensuring they are operating a safe vehicle and have the correct classification on their drivers license," says Staples.
