Pastors gardening to help residents impacted by economy

(Bushnell, Ill.)   Two Tri-State pastors have found a creative way to help people feeling the heat of the struggling economy.

The pastors of First Baptist Church in Bushnell and Prairieland Open Bible Church in Prairie City have planted gardens on their churches property.

The products of those gardens are given to low income families or people who have been laid off from their jobs.

The gardens contains several types of vegetables, but mostly are made up of tomato and green bean plants.

A couple acres of sweet corn has also been donated by a local farmer.

"The idea started back in February," said Pastor Dave Eden of the First Baptist Church in Bushenll.  "We learned that one of the factories had shutdown from 3 shifts down to 1 shift and 32 hours. And one of the other factories had shutdown. I thought what can we do as a church to help thee people out and show that we really do care."

Pastor Dave Eden say it's difficult to find everybody who needs help and asks anybody who may know someone in need to let either of the churches know.
