FT. HOOD, TX (AP) --

The Army says the gunman who opened fire at Fort Hood, Texas, today and killed 11 people and wounded 31 others was a mental health doctor facing deployment overseas. The victims were shot at a center where soldiers undergo medical screening before going overseas or who are returning. Two other soldiers who were detained have been released. The military says they weren't involved. Federal law enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood shooter had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats. Officials are still trying to determine that the postings were written by Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan.
