Hannibal,Mo. -- UPDATE: Nov. 17, 2009

The following is a press release from the City of Hannibal Police Department:

The Hannibal Police Department continues the investigation into a report of a missing woman identified as Christina Whittaker, 21, of Hannibal.

Hard to discern the facts behind the disapperance.

What's problematic is the variety of information circulating about Whitaker's disappearance. I've read online that she threatened suicide over her cell phone immediately prior to her disappearance; that she called someone and let them know she had a ride home; that her cell phone was found between two businesses. It would be helpful if the local media published as accurate of a timeline as possible -- most especially if the cell phone was found at a certain time and place. Her family needs to encourage the media as much as possible in keeping this case in the public eye -- I would also recommend Internet sites such as the NCMA and the Charley Project to profile her disappearance.

I tend to discount the alleged Peoria sighting (it's quite common for sightings to start popping up all over, either due to mistaken identity or deliberate falsehoods) at this time because Whitaker hasn't been portrayed as someone who would just run off from her family. Her level of intoxication that evening tragically left her exposed to several scenarios-- accidental drowning in the river, depression and suicidal thoughts, or selection an an easy target for assault and murder, possibly by an acquaintance.

Missing Hannibal Woman

Posted by Concerned Hopeful, Hannibal, MO - Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 10:21 a.m.

The family needs to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigations immediately to seek advice. As everyone knows the longer a case goes unsolved the more difficult it is to solve.

I agree there should be more media coverage. Someone might be able to help but are like me and was unaware that she hadn't been found.

This is one of our own local members and we don't care enough to continue to cover the story. This is sooo sad. However, we are well informed about what the celebrities are doing. What has happened to us?

My heart goes out to her family and friends. May God Bless.

Pray for the poor girl and her family

I try to watch the news and read the papers often. I just found out about this missing girl.(12 days after the fact) The lagrange hoax got 24/7 news broadcasts with interruptions to bring special reports. Lets have the same consideration for this girl. This is ridiculous that this story has been kept so low key. Let people know whats going on, so we know what to look for.! Who cares if she was drinking or doing whatever else. If someone took her, then lets find them. People on here are being ignorant saying that she brought this on herself.. Have some respect, class, and kindness for family memebers and friends that may read this. Lets join together and pray for her safe return..

Prayers are with you!

This story is so alarming! My thoughts and prayers are with this family and especially her daughter in hopes that her mother returns home for the holidays!

missing woman

I agree that it is sad that this woman has gone missing. Especially since she is a mother. What's also too bad is that people are blaming the police and news force that a lot of people haven't even heard of the situation. But, people, she is not a girl. She is a 21-year-old woman who should have been more responsible with her drinking and apparent mixed cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs. I feel for her family and her tiny child. But she is missing partially of her own accord. However, if someone has taken her and or hurt her, than may God be their judge and weigh heavily on their heart and soul. May they pay, if so.

you know this young mother has been missing for a week and I have seen very little on her disappearance it doesn’t matter if she may have run off we don't know that, and her mother deserves to know. There is surely more that can be done than there is. I have even had people tell me they haven't even heard about it there is not one person that shouldn't know for a 100mile radius. My heart goes out to her family.

Let's get together

I agree with the no coverage I hear more through word of mouth. This is a girl who could have easily be taken or wandered off in her condtion. You hear all over the news of missing women and children from all states. How about a foot search. This community can pull togeter and find this mother.

local newa isnt doing enough

Posted by chastity charlton, hannibal - Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 8:57 p.m.

I agree that its a shame that a young woman goes missing and the local news chanells are not broadcasting about it. The word needs to get out to people that she is missing and that her family needs the help from anyone who might no even the smallest details of her where abouts. Also the news needs to stress that any and all imformation would be helpfull even if it is seems like its not importain. My heart goes out to her family and I pray for her safety and her return home.

No Coverage

Posted by Missy Reed, Hull, IL - Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:01 a.m.

I also cannot believe the lack of coverage on this story, you can't find it on WGEM, Quincy Herald Whig, there is more information on face book then there is on the news or the news papers, it really is a shame.

Locals not "that" important

Posted by dissapointed citezen, Hannibal - Monday, November 16, 2009 at 10:18 p.m.

I am dissapointed in our local broadcasting. We have a young new mother just dissapear and her story makes the news just one time? We hear about people dissapearing or passing hundreds of miles away, but can't even get decent coverage on our own locals. I wonder if her "body" would be discovered, if she'd be important enough then?

Weight

Christina weighs 130 pounds.
