ADAMS COUNTY, ILL. -- A day-long standoff just northeast of Quincy finally ended peacefully Thursday night.

Officers and a special response team spent more than 10 hours at 6111 Ewbanks Road.

Our crews were kept far away from the scene.

Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer said 39-year-old Randy Black barricaded himself and a family member inside a house shortly after 11 a.m Thursday.

Crews were able to get the family member out at around 7 p.m.

Officers eventually were able to talk Black out of the house at around 9:25 p.m.

Fischer says there was a handgun inside the house, so police were careful not to make a volatile situation worse.

No one was hurt. Sheriff Fischer says Black will undergo a mental evaluation.
