QUINCY, ILL. -- (Quincy, Ill.) 'Tis the season for giving, and if this year you can't give money, consider giving your time.
The Quincy Salvation Army says it takes about 6,000 hours of volunteer hours to man all of the red kettles around the city.
It is looking for volunteers for all of its Christmas activities including bell ringing, staffing the Angel Tree at the mall, and for Christmas basket help.
Patty Douglas with the Quincy Salvation Army says volunteering is an easy way to give back to the community.
"We'll have people who will want to help and maybe can't afford it because of loss of jobs. But if they can give time they feel like they're giving back and they really are and that's very helpful. As many as we can get we're going to take because we never have enough," said Douglas.
We also checked in with a few other Salvation Armies.
Macomb, Keokuk and Hannibal all say they are in need of bell ringers.
They all also say more volunteers will be needed closer to Christmas for other activities.
