Lead guitarist in local band dies
A 27 year old man is dead after a terrible collision with a freight train. Cory Wilkey of Camp Point was heading South on South Main Street in Camp Point around 5am Sunday morning when he turned onto the railroad crossing just North of West Jefferson Street when he was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Freight Train. Wilkey was pronounced dead on the scene by the Adams County Coroner. The accident is still under investigation.
Chief Deputy Coroner John Myers told me that Wilkey was taken to Memorial Hospital in Springfield for an autopsy, which will be done sometime tomorrow. News of this accident hits close to home for several KHQA employees. People we spoke with in the community say Corey was a great guy. He was the lead guitarist for Pre-Dawn Hour, a local rock band.
His friends and band members say he was a loving and devoted father and husband. He was very loved by family, friends and fans, and will not soon be forgotten. Wilkey leaves behind his wife McKenzie and two kids, 5 year old Odessa, and two year old Reece. Funeral arrangements are pending.
