BEL-NOR, MO. (AP) -- A suburban St. Louis man undergoes surgery after being attacked by two pit bulls.

It happened this morning in north St. Louis County. Police say the man had several bites to the arms and legs. He was badly hurt but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The man who was attacked is a relative of the homeowner. Police spokeswoman Tracy Panus says he was playing with the dogs when the attack occurred.

A neighbor saw the attack and shot the dogs. One dog died. The other was euthanized later in the day.

Police don't know what prompted the attack. The victim's name has not been released.

what kind of dogs

In the initial report it was said that two pit bulls attacked. Now the reports since have said bulldogs. Which is it? I notice very very often that when a dog attacks it is instantly credited to a pit bull. Apparently news writers or whoever comes up with this is a dog expert. Obviously not since they are wrong so often. This reminds me of the case in Europe where the woman had a face transplant because she was attacked by her own pit bulls. Although later, it was confirmed that the dog was a labrador retiever but further damage was done and canine profiling continues to fester in town after town wanting to eliminate particular "scary" breeds. Once a wonderfully thought of pet (think Petey from Little Rascals and the RCA dogs) it is now the considered the lowest of low ... a rodent. Maybe they got it right the first time of many tries and they were pit bulls. Maybe they should do research and get it right the first and only time, every time.
