ST. CHARLES, MO. (AP) -- St. Charles County prosecutor Jack Banas is close to finishing his investigation into the hoax that precipitated the suicide of a 13-year-old girl.

Megan Meier killed herself in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages from who she thought was a 16-year-old boy on the social networking site MySpace.

It turned out the boy was not real. The messages were allegedly created by a friend's mother who wanted to find out what Megan was saying about her child online.

Banas says he will wrap up interviews Friday and will have an announcement early next week concerning whether to charge the mother accused of orchestrating the hoax.
