Federal government will handle exchange for state

MISSOURI (AP) -- Missouri Governor Jay Nixon's plans to set up an online health insurance marketplace by 2014 were defeated on Tuesday.

Yesterday the Governor announced that his administration would inform the federal government that the state would not be setting up that exchange.

That means that the way is now clear for the federal government to set up an insurance exchange in the state.

Voters approved a measure that prevented Nixon from setting up the program apart from approval by state lawmakers.

And so far those lawmakers have not given their approval for the plan.
