KEOKUK, IOWA -- The City of Keokuk hopes to benefit from a penalty from Roquette America.

Tri-States Public Radio reports the plant must pay a $4.1 million fine alleged violations of the Clean Water Act.

Mayor Tom Marion is asking the EPA for half the money to go to the city because the alleged violations happened in that town.

Marion says the money could be used to help pay for the separation of the city's combined sanitary and storm-water sewer system.

This project would cost the city $77 million over the next twenty years.
