QUINCY, ILL. -- Budgetary difficulties have forced the Adams County sheriff's office to make some personnel cuts.

The department a has eliminated a clerical position, a maintenance position and a member of the animal warden's staff.

Sheriff Brent Fischer said the cuts are a result of the county's board's request to have a zero-growth budget for the past three years and the implementation of a 2 percent raise for union employees.

"We hate to lose anyone, but when we're in the financial times we're in, it came down to personnel," Sheriff Fischer said.

The clerical and animal warden positions will be eliminated by the end of the year.

The employee in the maintenance position retired, so the department decided not to replace that employee.
