Project will cost less than expected

LEE COUNTY, IA -- Work to expand the Lee County Jail is underway, despite starting about three weeks late.

Construction crews worked extra hours to catch up, and are now only one week behind. Crews will work on the panels for the walls next week.  A roof may be on the building by late December or early January.

There's some good news...the project will cost about $100,000 less, because thing that weren't needed were cut from the project.

The new jail will be able to hold 144 inmates. It's expected to be finished in two years.
