ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Two children's hospitals in St. Louis are teaming up with police and the medical examiner to urge parents not to sleep with their babies.

They'll hold a news conference later today to announce that 19 otherwise healthy babies from the St. Louis area died last year after sleeping with their parents. That compares to 14 infants who died in that manner in 2007.

Experts say babies can die or suffer permanent, debilitating injuries when they are suffocated by a parent's body, blankets or pillows.

Doctors say infants always should be placed on their backs in a crib to sleep.
