Doug Howery pleads not guilty in the murder of his wife in 1992
BOWLING GREEN, Mo. (AP) - A northeast Missouri man has pleaded not guilty in the death of his wife, who was reported missing 17 years ago.
Douglas Howery Sr. entered the plea Wednesday at the Pike County courthouse in Bowling Green. The 57-year-old suspect did not speak during the hearing.
Howery is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Betty Ann Howery, who was 44 when she disappeared from the couple's rural Annada farm in February 1992.
An attorney for Howery said he will file a motion seeking to lower Howery's $1 million cash-only bond.
Howery was arrested May 7, 2009.
Human bones were discovered during an excavation at the Annada farm in October. DNA testing identified the bones as those of Betty Ann Howery.
