The Schuyler County Humane Society needs your help to build a shelter to house pets looking for a new home.

Humane Society members have been operating without a shelter for nearly eight years.

Even without a shelter, the Schuyler Humane Society is working to save the lives of pets every day. Since it was founded back in 2002, volunteers have been working closely with the county pound, in order to save dogs and cats like these before they are euthanized.

Why is this an important project for Schuyler County?

Amanda Shoemaker, Humane Society Volunteer said, "The pets don't have a voice. There needs to be someone to have a voice for dogs and cats."

But without a shelter, the humane society is working with limited resources and locations in which to move the animals. Now thanks to the donation of this Volvo, volunteers are hoping to raise some of the funds they'll need to build a humane society to save pets like these.

Shoemaker said, "I think the key is yes we can survive without a shelter because we have for so many years but we need a shelter to have an actual physical presence for the humane society."

Volunteers are selling 25 dollar raffle tickets for a chance to win this car to raise money. Although Humane Society Member Amanda Shoemaker says although only one person can drive it home, it's really all about building a shelter for these animals who deserve a good home and a good life.

The drawing for the car will occur at Smiles Day in Rushville on September 18.
