Shown in Loraine and Mendon Elementary

Schoolchildren around the country have been given a back-to-school pep talk from a man who admits that he was "a little bit of a goof off" when he was their age.

President Barack Obama told the students that they all have "something to offer" and that it's up to them to find out what it is.

As you know, many school districts in the tri-states decided not to show the president's midday speech.

But we were able to find a few.

Loraine Elementary and Mendon Elementary brought their kids together to watch President Obama's speech.

Principal Jim Sohn told KHQA it seemed like a normal fit to let the kids watch.

The kids watched the first ten minutes when the president talked about respecting adults and teachers...but most importantly respecting yourself.

"It was a good message and for us to show that and for us to believe that, I think out of due respect for that office, the presidency, it was just right to show that," said Sohn.

Principal Jim Sohn said he only received two notes from parents asking for their kids not to watch the speech.
