GRIGGSVILLE, IL -- We all know an apple keeps the doctor away, but who knows what a weekend full of apples can do.

Just ask Griggsville residents.

They kicked off its Apple Festival Friday by crowning its new queen.

17-year-old Miranda Whitaker of Griggsville walked away with the crown.

Our very own KHQA's Melissa Shriver had the difficult job of judging that event.

The Griggsville Apple Festival concluded Sunday, but residents had a weekend full of fun.

It included a magnificent mile parade, kiddie rides, drawings, exhibits, a car show, and entertainment.

We spoke with the president of the Griggsville Apple Festival Committee about how the event got its start.

Edward Logan said, "The Griggsville Apple Festival is now in its nearly 40th year. It's a place where community members can get together with old friends."

The festival is a major fund raiser for many area community organizations and also raises money for the Griggsville beautification project.
