Six or seven protestors were outside Quincy City Hall tonight in favor of Jonathan Schoenakase's service Courtesy Rides, but they didn't help sway the city council's mind.
The council voted tonight to pass the ordinance which defines what "for hire" means, essentially shutting down the Courtesy Ride service.
You'll remember, Jonathan Schoenakase would pick people up who felt they had too much to drink and take them home without a charge, but he did accept tips and donations.
Schoenekase, his attorney, Diamond Cab owner Mike Meredith, and the owner of Predmore Shuttle spoke at tonight's meeting.
Diamond Cab thought Courtesy Rides should have to comply with the same rules and laws as other transportation businesses.
There was a lot of discussion about this issue tonight, including if the ordinance would affect church buses or those who are reimbursed for giving medicare patients rides to the doctor's office.
Jonathan Schoenakase told WTAD news tonight, he's looking at other options, including doing the service completely free.
