CHICAGO, ILL. (AP) -- Illinois Republicans have a candidate for attorney general.

Attorney and former Northfield trustee Steve Kim formally announced Monday that he's running.

If he's elected, Kim says one of his focuses will be protecting small businesses against fraud because the current economic climate makes them vulnerable.

The 39-year-old Kim works as a legal adviser to small and medium-sized companies and lives in Northbrook.

Kim would face a formidable challenge in the 2010 general election.

Incumbent Attorney General Lisa Madigan, a Democrat, is running for her third term.
