PITTSFIELD, IL -- The jury trial of an Ameren C-I-P-S worker accused of animal cruelty has been continued for the fourth time.

Lori Kellum is accused of beating and killing a cocker spaniel dog owned by a Kinderhook resident during her rounds in July 2008.

A jury trial has been postponed several times since then, mostly at the request of Kellum's attorney.

The latest was supposed to have begun November 2nd.

KHQA spoke with Pike County States Attorney Frank McCartney.

He told KHQA the prosecution was against the continuation. But a prepaid vacation was cited in the defense's motion as a reason to postpone the trial.

It's now scheduled for January.

dog trial

The prosecution should drop the charges. In this nation, a person should have the right to protect themselves against an attacking dog. This whole case is pointless, and expensive to the public. The person at fault was the dog's owner. It should have been restrained. Thank God the lady is demanding a jury trial. I pray the prosecution has a biting defeat, so they will be wiser in unjust prosecutions in the future.
