Quincy, IL -- Man's best friend and several other pets received the divine treatment at Quincy University today.

It was the second year for the Padua (pad'-oo-uh) Pet Parade.

Dogs, guinea pigs and other animals were blessed by brother Ed, before going on a half mile walk through the campus.

Those who came out to Padua (pad'-oo-uh) Hall donated money and items such as animal collars, treats, and toys to benefit the Quincy Humane Society.

QU's residence life staff, who hosted the event, said today's weather was definitely a blessing compared to last year's cold, windy and wet conditions.

People we spoke to thought it was a great idea to get their pet blessed and support a good cause.

"We've always had dogs and we support the Humane Society 100% and my daughter and son in law are very involved with the humane society. We help now and then, but we just adopted our new dog in July which is 3 year's old," said Shirley Schuecking.

By the way their new dog's name is Katie.

Snacks and hot chocolate were served after the walk, and of course treats for the pets.

According to Humane Society staff they expect this year's donations to be even larger than last year, which despite the nasty weather last year, more than 200 dollars and several boxes of items were donated.
