The Adams County Sheriff's Department checked up on area sex offenders during the Halloween holiday.

You'll recall its against the law for sex offenders to talk with or turn on their lights for trick-or treaters.

Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer says during the compliance check, deputies randomly stopped at more than 25 homes of sex offenders in the county.

All but one were found to be in compliance with the law.

That offender failed to register his current address.

He may face new charges or go back to prison.

Sheriff Fischer said, "We wanted to step up our enforcement and make sure sex offenders remain compliant that they did not have their lights on or entice children into their homes."

Sheriff Fischer says deputies perform random checks of sex offenders throughout the year.

He says those checks are important to ensure parents and caregivers have accurate information on sex offender websites.
