QUINCY, ILL. -- The demand for the H1N1 vaccine was so great two weeks ago that the Adams County Health Department had to expand to the Quincy Civic Center.

Hundreds of people rolled up their sleeves to get the nasal mist and the shot. Director of Health Promotions Julie Shepard told us 5,000 doses are available.

Chairs were provided as people waited, and food was sold. There was a minimum wait time of an hour to an hour and a half.

"This has gone really smooth. We have a nice big facility with wonderful parking, indoor waiting where people can sit down, so we're really pleased with the clinic today," Shepard said.

Shepard told us another H1N1 clinic could be scheduled, depending on the amount of vaccines left over after Thursday. We also wanted to know if regular seasonal flu shots were available. We're told they're not, but could become available in the future.

Informed about the vaccine??

Posted by Brittany Waters, Payson - Friday, November 06, 2009 at 7:38 p.m.

I was dissapointed to hear that those working the H1N1 vaccine clinic, at the OLC on Thursday, were ill informed about the vaccines they were giving. My sister-in-law went planning to get her two sons vaccinated as well as herself because she is three and a half months pregnant. She researched the vaccine and discussed it with her doctor and decided it would be best to get the vaccine that is preservative free. When it was her turn to get the shot and she brought up that she wanted this form of the vaccine, those giving them had no idea what she was talking about. Luckily, she went to her doctor and recieved the correct form of the shot today. This was concerning knowing that all the other pregnant women coming to get this vaccine do not really know their options in which one to get, and apparently neither did the workers.
