HANNIBAL, MO. -- Money is tight for everyone... Cities all across the country are tightening their belts.

Including the city of Hannibal. A committee made up of elected officials and council members plan to review revenue city spending. Hannibal City Manager Jeff LaGarce says the budget for the city's general fund is around $10.6 million dollars.

City expenses round out to $10.4 million-dollars LaGarce says there are some concerns about future costs.

That's why a committee will break down each service and look at what's essential. LaGarce says the goal is to ensure the same service delivery, but find cheaper ways to do so.

"What's prompting it is not just the recent recession, but trends we're seeing. We haven't seen a lot of home building in recent years. We have seen things like healthcare and pension costs grow beyond any standard deviation of normal inflation," LaGarce said.

We also asked Hannibal City Manager Jeff LaGarce about the future of furlough days and reducing services. He told us he hasn't considered those options yet.
