WASHINGTON (AP) — The base commander at Fort Hood says survivors of the shooting rampage have told him that the Army psychiatrist suspected in the violence carried out his gunfire in "a very calm and measured approach."

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said in a nationally broadcast interview Friday that authorities have not yet been able to talk to the suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who survived and hospitalized on a ventilator.

Cone said some 300 soldiers were lined up to get shots and eye-testing at a Soldier Readiness Center when the shots rang out, killing 13 and injuring 30 others. Cone said one soldier who had been shot told him, 'I made the mistake of moving and I was shot again.' " The general said survivors told him that during the rampage, soldiers "would scramble to the ground and help each other out." Cone appeared on CBS's "The Early Show."

Bring our troops home, quit fighting religous wars!

This man wanted out of the army and should have been allowed to do so, and made to pay back the money for his education. However,I wish that we would quit sending troops to die for other countries. It is not a failure to reconsider the evidence and make intelligent choices.

Thanks for more Islamic sterotypes...Gunman

Causing pain to so many...making the opposite effect with your "heroism". At least thank you for being alive so people can blame you mostly instead of religious groups.

This sympathy and empathy for a mass murder makes me a bit queasy.

Be that as it may . . . hopefully, Military Justice will be SWIFT AND SURE - unlike what passes for justice in the rest of the USA.

And, if this turncoat survives - likely, with the outstanding medical system of the USA (soon to be dismembered by the Democrats) - I anticipate he ends up either in front of a firing squad, smoking his last cigarette, or being hanged by his neck until dead.

I would suggest we bury this criminal wrapped in a pig skin - for the encouragement of the peaceful folks. Just as I would suggest burying Tim McVay with copies of Dr. Martin Luther King's speeches, and a copy of the US Constitution.

Rest in peace, Jon Owens, Florence
