Quincy, IL -- It's been one year since St. Rose of Lima reopened to offer the Latin Mass in Quincy.
This morning the church celebrated with a Solemn High Mass followed by a dinner.
If you're not familiar with the Latin Mass, it's a form of Catholic worship dating back to the 16th Century.
For the past year a French priest, who studied in Rome, has voiced mass in its original Roman Rite.
Paul Geers, President of the Latin Mass Society in Quincy told us the congregation has grown to more than 350 members since the doors of St. Rose opened again.
He says the response has been tremendous with people driving one to two hours for service.
Geers told us the Latin Mass isn't for everyone.
But suprisingly enough it's attracting a much more younger generation instead of those who grew up with this type of mass in the 1960's.
"I come because I like the tradition of it. It's the mass we've been praying for over 1,000 years, so it's kind of preserving our catholic heritage and it's the holy tongue of our faith the Latin language," said church member Lucas Stump, 22.
Geers told us the congregations core group is between 18 to 40 years old.
St. Rose of Lima {LEE ma} is located on 8th and Chestnut.
A 30 minute mass is held Monday through Saturday at 12:10 p.m.
On Sunday there's an 8 a.m. and an 11 a.m. Mass.
