(Hannibal, Mo.)  HANNIBAL, MO. -- It took 30 turkeys and plenty of volunteers to prepare Thanksgiving meals for more than 600 people.

This is the 10th year the American Legion Post 55 in Hannibal served a meal on Thanksgiving Day.

Around 11 oclock Thanksgiving afternoon, 250 meals had already been delivered and more were expected.

The Legion also serves a meal at it's facility on Highway MM in Hannibal.

Workers were expecting to serve a total of more than 600 meals through deliveries and the in house meal.

And we found out a big volunteer effort is key in putting together all of those quality meals.

"It's very important. Because there's a lot of people that probably wouldn't have the opportunity to get the meal that they're going to get today. And it's very nutritious. We watch how we prepare it and how we deliver it. We check every meal that goes out and make sure it's clean and pure and warm," said Jess Ornelas, Activities and Publicy Chairman.

The majority of the food served was donated or bought with donations.

The Legion only bought 4 turkeys out of the 30 that were prepared.

And a total of 740 slices of pie were all bought with donations.
