KANKAKEE, ILL. (AP) -- The Illinois Army National Guard plans to build a new $48.5 million aviation center at the Greater Kankakee Airport and close a facility in Chicago.

According to the guard, the new 30-acre facility will be finished in 2015 or 2016.

Two guard aviation companies with about 200 soldiers between them will then be moved to Kankakee from the Midway Army Aviation Support Facility in Chicago.

The guard says it has outgrown that facility.

Maj. Brad Leighton says another 75 full-time guard jobs at the Chicago facility will move, too.

He says no civilian jobs will be lost.

The guard says the new center will cost the state of Illinois $6.25 million.

The federal government plans to cover the rest of the cost.
