MONROE CITY, MO. -- The Monroe City Hometown Volunteers are trying to make it a Merry Christmas for as many people as they can.

The group of volunteers are putting together care packages for 70 families and counting.

Volunteer Steve Shively says another family was just added to the group's listed Thursday, December 17th.

Families will not only receive new toys for children and some food to put together a Christmas dinner, but the Hometown Volunteers also are providing them with some basic necessities.

Clothing, toilet paper and tooth brushes will be included in the packages.

What kind of feeling does it give you to do something like this.

"Well when we're all together with our families on Christmas morning, we can enjoy the thought that there's a lot of kids getting new gifts for Christmas and making their Christmas happy. And a lot of families get together because all the food and they're able to have a nice Christmas meal," said Shively.

The Monroe City Hometown Volunteers will deliver the boxes of gifts, food and supplies Saturday, December 19th.
