HAMILTON, IL -- A child who died in an accident last month was not riding in a child safety seat.

Illinois State Police report investigators found neither a booster seat nor a child safety seat in the wreckage.

Six-year-old Emina Smajlovic of Hamilton died after a trailer came unhooked and hit the car in which she was riding.

Illinois law requires children her age ride in a child safety seat.

Gary Mason of Argyle, Iowa, is charged with leaving the scene of that accident on Illinois 96 south of Hamilton.
