QUINCY, ILL. -- Many area couples looked to the past to to sweep their sweetheart off their feet this Valentines Weekend.Both confederate and Union supporters and couples and families danced the night away at the 7th annual Mississippi Thespian Civil War Military Ball.
It was held inside Lippincott Hall at the veterans home which has historical significance because it use to house Civil War Veterans and hold Civil War reunions.
People took a step back in time and learned how to dance to authentic reels, promenades and waltzes of the 1860s.
Plus, a photographer was on hand to take historic and memorable portraits.
The group's Director, Roger Leach, says the event is put on every year to promote their love of living history, and share the experience of the grand ball with the community.
"Well this is a perfect event for anyone of any age to come. We have the really young people...4th grade sometimes younger all the way up to seniors...especially our veterans here at the veterans home. It's very important to have them here and that we honor them," said Leach.
This is the groups largest fundraiser.
It helps students take trips to schools and historic civil war sites.
