JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri lawmaker wanted to make it a little easier for people to have romantic dinners out when Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday. But his colleagues have shown little love for the idea.
Missouri restaurants that serve alcohol pay an extra $200 a year for licenses to do so on Sundays. But the special license isn't needed for Sundays that are on a list of special occasions, such as St. Patrick's Day and Super Bowl Sunday.
This year, Feb. 14 fell on a Sunday, and House Republican Bill Deeken of Jefferson City wanted to add Valentine's Day to the list of special occasions.
But the legislation was never debated, and Deeken is dropping it.
There's plenty of time to try again. Valentine's Day next falls on a Sunday in 2016.
Sunday liquor sales is HB1542.
