CHICAGO -- The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says that it is marking Child Abuse Prevention Month in the state.

The department says the goal is to highlight ways the state prevents child abuse and neglect. Department director Erwin McEwen says working together in communities can "build protective factors" in families and help children be raised safely and successfully.

Activities and events are scheduled statewide throughout the month.
