SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The 29th annual Illinois Holocaust observance will be held Thursday.

Gov. Pat Quinn will be among the guests at the Old State Capitol in Springfield.

The event occurs during the Days of Remembrance.

That's an annual commemoration that Congress designated to recall victims of the Holocaust and remind Americans of the dangers of hatred, prejudice and state-sponsored discrimination.

Holocaust survivor Fritzie Fritzshall of Skokie will offer a remembrance at this year's ceremony.

Participants will light six memorial candles, each representing 1 million Jews put to death by the Nazis during World War II.
